Green Six Sigma

Green Six Sigma

Six Sigma is a management process developed by Motorola.  It seeks to improve the quality of process outputs by identifying and removing the causes of defects (errors) and minimizing variability in manufacturing and business processes (quality and consistency).  Lean is a production practice developed by Toyota designed to streamline operations.  It considers the expenditure of resources for any goal other than the creation of value for the end customer to be wasteful, and thus a target for elimination.

In other words, Lean aims to keep what works, and get rid of what does not.

Green Six Sigma combines the tools and methodologies of both processes to enhance environmental efforts.

  • Fast and dramatic results
  • Continual improvement culture
  • Avoided pitfalls
  • New market for environmental improvement ideas

Green Six Sigma can be a very effective strategy for implementing a quality, environmental, or health and safety management system such as those offered through ISO.  Contact us to see how such systems can help your business.

*Note: BS 8901 is currently a British standard, but is being developed into an international standard (preliminary ISO 20121).
